Best Settings for Brand New MacBook Pro

Hi all,

I've just got a new MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz i5, 4GB RAM, 320GB Hard Drive with the 256MB NVidia GT330M. Running fully updated 10.6.4

I installed X-Plane 9 from my DVD, and updated to the latest 9.6rc2 (no beta) so there were no old preferences files at all.

The only plugin I have installed is the UFMC (again latest version 2.1), I load up the x737 and while sitting on the runway at LIRF, X-Plane is using 90-100% of the CPU.

I've got fairly basic rendering settings (see screenshot), so can't understand why X-Plane is thrashing the CPU so much. Sitting in the cockpit I get 40fps, switching to chase view, again while on the runway I get 25fps. There's no custom scenery installed for this airport, just the scenery from the DVD.

I just wondered if others could try setting up X-Plane as above, or similar and go to that airport with that aircraft and see what their performance is like so I can see if my brand new powerful MacBook is really having that much trouble running X-Plane.

If you need any more info, just ask - and thanks for helping!

B737 Classic Project

Hi all,

I'm VERY happy to get the honor of announcing this project which I know many have been waiting for

(In-sim shot, not a render)

A new team called IXEG - International X-Plane Engineering Group has been formed to make this
wonderful classic aircraft.
The team is handpicked for the job, and, as the name indicates consists of mainly engineers which also
have very long experience with X-Plane. In addition we have an in-type captain as consultant.

I'm sure the Boeing 737 Classic needs no further introductions since most of you probably have
been in one. To be a bit more precise, it will be the B737-300.

It will have it all, FMC, full plugin driven systems, and the most accurate flightmodel ever made for any heavy in X-Plane.
Visually it will be state of the art, so will also the 3D panel with manipulators and whatever v10 might contain of new features.

The answer to the question most of you probably are thinking of right now ...
ETA is Christmas 2011

Teach an old Mac new tricks

So I've got an old computer, A 2006 2.1GHz PowerPC G5 with 512 MB. X-plane used to run great, but iy has slowly gotten worse and worse as the new graphic updates come out (especially the XPFW 757, but it's my favorite plane so I don't mind lowering a few settings). Is there any way to make it faster short of buying a new computer?

State of the Union

Hey all-

Today is a big day here at XPFW; a BIG day! As many of you have noticed, XPFW has been in a bit of a slump for quite some time now with projects slow-coming, never-ending beta phases, and worst of all, unfulfilled promises. While XPFW, as you all have seen it, has been slow recently, the last few months have been utter chaos for the members of the XPFW team. Without further adieu, here's why: In its heyday, XPFW represented a shining beacon of all that is X-Plane. It was your one-stop-shop for the most cutting-edge aircraft and scenery, without comparison. Unfortunately, following the transition to OBJ-based aircraft development, a number of the XPFW team members decided that they lacked the time to learn all of the new skills required to continue to fulfill our mantra, and the XPFW team was left with a few members shouldering all of the work. As a result, we all began pursuing our own projects under the guise of XPFW, but nevertheless lacked any significant cooperative effort.

That is, until about two months ago.

After the obligatory whining and moaning, we collectively elected to drastically restructure the site and the team. The first phase, site re-design, was a complete success thanks to Peter, and I hope you all are enjoying the new layout as much as I am. The second phase, restructuring the XPFW team, has been considerably more difficult. When we approached the issue of reorganization, we did so with three goals in mind:

1) Our first goal was to eliminate all stalled/dead projects as well as personal pursuits in order to focus the collective effort on producing aircraft. Therefore, all previously announced projects (with the exception of the 757) are now terminated. I know this is a bit of a shock to you all, but this was no easy decision. Nevertheless, after sitting down and really thinking about how to change thing, we decided that it was best to leave the past in the past, and move forward. But do not dismay! With the new system to be mentioned in a bit, I am confident that many of those old projects will be resurrected at some point down the road, and followed through with.

2) Find new members capable of developing in the current X-Plane environment. We sought out the best and the brightest X-Plane has to offer, and we hit the jackpot! It is my distinct pleasure to introduce you to the new members of the XPFW team:

Javier Cortés- Javier came out of the blue a while back with the UFMC for X-Plane; the FIRST fully-functional, integrated FMC for X-Plane. Javier is an incredible programmer, with significant knowledge of exactly how X-Plane works. What's more is that he has an unparalleled understanding of aircraft systems. He will be taking the reigns of programming on our upcoming project, and we're all (as should you) be sitting on the edge of your seats in anticipation of what magic he will perform

Denis Krupin- Like Javier, Denis exploded into the X-Plane arena with the introduction of his K-7, SeaBee, and his most recent G-21A Goose. Denis is a one man army, excelling at all aspects of X-Plane development. We were drawn to his extensive, but highly efficient models, which are all covered with his amazing texture work. I could go on, but his talents are just as self-evident as Javier's. Needless to say, he is yet another reason to be extremely excited.

3) Our final goal was to fundamentally change the way the XPFW team goes about development. No longer will a few people be charged with the task of completing all aspects of a project. Rather, the new XPFW team will work as an assembly line: The modelers will model, texturers will texture, animators will...you get the idea. In addition to changing the organization of the work-flow, we have also adopted a new system to pass information and files amongst the group. While that doesn't mean anything to you, the public, it's a big deal to us on the team. The new version control system will allow us to not only work efficiently, but not have to wait for someone to finish a part while everyone else is waiting. Simply put, no continued lag=no wasted time!

If you don't know by now, all of this equates to an unprecedented opportunity for XPFW to regain it's title as the champ, but more importantly, it will allow us to finally produce something for the reason why we exist: You, the general public. Therefore, I say to you the state of the union is stronger than ever before, and we are now poised to return to providing the highest quality, cutting-edge, and most importantly, FREE add-ons available for X-Plane 9 and beyond.

Finally, we have decided on a new project; one which will blow you all out of your seats. Stay tuned for an announcement in the coming days!

Yours,

X-Plane Freeware

PS: I encourage you to welcome Javier and Denis to XPFW. I have had the opportunity to share some words with each of them, and I can say these guys are not only great folks, but they know their way around X-Plane. Again, I would like to personally welcome them, as I hope you all will.

Need a Boeing 717 (DC-9) for xplane 9

I work at the Virginia Air and Space Center (vasc.org) and am trying to update our DC-9 simulator. I'm updating XPlane from version 6 to version 9 and the old files do not work with the new version. Does anyone know where a good DC-9 can be found or knows someone who is willing to make one for us? This sim has a main screen up front and a bank of 8 monitors on either side to simulate passenger windows.

Deleting Preferences

Hey all I wrote on here earlier that I could not change aircraft in X-plane. When I try to switch planes it quits out on me and gives me a message saying it unexpectedly quit. I was told to delete my preferences but when i go to my preference folder in resources there is nothing in it. I was wondering if I am doing something wrong or what. I have a macbook pro with 2.33GHZ Intel Core Duo OS 10.5.8 and the newest version of x-plane I think it is 9.6. Any help would be great. I am storing X-plane on a portable drive.

2560x1440 i3 27" iMac ... what settings?

Now that I've successfully got the iMac graphics working I'm a bit confused as to what graphics settings to use with X-Plane 9.6 and this shiny new 512MB ATI 5670HD video card. I've never had anything that powerful in a machine before and I've been happy to discover that I can turn much of the setting up/on towards their max with little impact on the frame rate.

That said, I am confused as to what to do with the monitor resolution. Should I just blow everything up to fit 2560x1440 full screen? Most of the heavy metal I fly (the Airbus and 737s) look quite jagged of course. The beta widescreen 757 even is a bit odd looking. Should I go for a windowed size? I want the cockpit panels to look good so I'm a bit confused here ... thoughts, anyone?

Thanks for any suggestions.

27" iMac i3 fails to launch

Hi all,

I managed to save enough to move from a 13" unibody MacBook to a monster 27" i3 3.2 GHz iMac in the last few days with the 512MB HD 5670 ATI card (2560x1440). I did my normal Carbon Copy Cloner of the entire MacBook and then installed that on the new iMac drive. Everything, as usual, went smoothly, I only needed to re-serialize my copy of Unity 3D. All of my apps, setting, prefs, serial numbers etc are on the new iMac fine. I've been using Apple since the late 70s so I rarely encounter issues updating.

That said, XP9 v9.5 is throwing me for a loop. When I try to start it up, or even start up the updater to 9.6, I get the following error message it allows you to click OK to get right back to Finder.

"I could not set up the graphics for X-Plane! I hope your monitor is at 1024x768 or higher! It must be! You do not meet the system requirements or you do not have OpenGL drivers or you entered a bad resolution in X-Plane! You need at least 256 meg of RAM, 16 meg of VRAM, and OpenGl drivers for your 3-D accelerator card! If you reset the resolution, you can try launching X-Plane again, since I am resetting X-Plane to default resolution now."

What prefs file should I dump to get X-Plane to start normally? Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Custom Fuel Flow settings ignored in 9.60rc2

Has anyone noticed that custom fuel flow round limit settings in Planemaker do not function in any release after 9.2 with one exception? A few days ago I updated to 9.60rc2 and, yes, the problem persists.
The only aircraft with custom FF limits that seems to work is the default P180 Avanti. I have exhausted all attempts to solve this non-functionality. If others are experiencing the same situation, sound off and I will dispatch a bug report to LR if warranted.

Or is the fuel flow instrument not required on the MEL?

cheers
p.s. I did a search here and at the org on this topic to no avail before posting.
