Heading and Vertical Speed Autopilot Problems

I've been having some trouble in X-Plane recently... haven't been able to use the program in months. Before I deleted all my preferences, the autopilot wouldn't even engage- it would instantly disengage upon selecting "auto." Now, it will engage. When i try to turn the heading knob, the selected heading will only move in increments of one. If i try to hold down the knob, it won't change, the numbers will only glitch. It does however work to click and let go, and move the number that way, every click moves a degree. This is tedious and inefficient, i don't understand why this happens. Also, the Vertical Speed function will not work. The function will engage, but the value will not change, not even with individual clicks like the heading function.
The autopilot hasn't worked for me since 9.30, and stupidly I upgraded my copy of it. Any ideas how i could rectify this?
I'm running a 2.8ghz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac running OS X 10.5.8
2GB RAM
I currently have running the latest update, X-plane 9.45
Thanks

I have the same exact situation happening to me......running the same machine, same OS, same mistake & finally same Xplane version.
Did the "verification of permission", erase pref, erase some Plugins and now left with a Xplane version more or less usable.

It's the only thing that screws it up, when its taken out it's all fixed.

So i was trying to fly from Paris to Dubai, tried climbing to Fl380 made it, but the aicraft couldnt hold a constant..so i descended back down to FL320 where the A380 couldnt hold a constant speed either...as I steadied down at FL320, to THR function started to blink and stutter quickly until it stopped again..

Did you arm the autothrottle? That's something most people forget to do (and it's crucial for flying this plane on autopilot). Flight director also must be in CMD mode. Check the manual on the x737 site to see what I'm talking about.
And next time, stay lower, like FL300 to build your speed up before you climb to FL380. Climbing straight up to FL380 at full throttle in real life will over-stress your engines, and they might go into core lock (as the pilots of Pinnacle Airlines 3701 found). In other words, take your time on the climb
