Hello everyone, I recently picked up x-plane, and had a concern.
In FSX (which I used to play), while in my virtual cockpit, I could zoom out all the way so that, while I was in my cockpit, I had a nice zoomed out view and was able to see the outside and all my instruments, and zoom in when I need to check my HUD or a specific gauge. However, in x-plane, when I am in the virtual cockpit, and press -, it doesn't back out at all. Only when I press + can I use - to get back to the original view. BUT, the original zoom is so close to the instruments, it kills the pleasure of a 3d cockpit since I can only see the instruments. Does anyone have a solution? I would really appreciate any advice/help.
Thank you.

Why am I glued to my instruments? I can't zoom out?

This is X-Plane's default Field of View.
It sucks.
In the rendering options menu, you should find a Field of View box. Change that anywhere from 55 to 80 depending on what you like.
The more of a FOV you have however, the more distorted the picture becomes.
My FOV is set to 72 right now.

Wow, this is great guys. Thanks so much. As a follow up, is there anyway to increase the sensitivity of the arrow keys? I feel like it takes forever to pan from left to right or from up to down. As a side, I use the HAT buttons on my joystick to look around, but it's only doing what the up/down/left/right arrow keys do, so its just as slow. Is there any fix for this? It would be truly amazing!
Thanks again everyone, amazing community.
Sincerely,
Aleks

Yeah, hold shift down with the arrow keys, should speed it up. Not sure if it works with the hat as well.
