MSFS conversions

I hope someone can help me with this one. In most of my MSFS conversions, such as EGLL and EGKK, terminal buildings and out buildings are all floating off the ground at various heights, where as all ground vehicles are on the ground. Most of the time it's only slight so I put up with it, but as in the case of EGKK and EGCC some buildings are way off the ground. I've used DSF2TEXT to look at it but can't figure out how to change the elevations of the objects. is there a way of getting all the buildings back on the ground?

I'm not sure if this is your issue, but in the rendering options page, check the 'all airports at same elevation' feature. (Not sure if that's what it's called, but you should easily be able to find it.)

Not exactly, it's called "Runways follow terrain countours" - turn it off and the airport will lie on level terrain. Changing the object elevation manually is not possible.

Attempting to edit the dsf file will only lead to frustration.

Emin...
I also have the Mega Heathrow scenery from Aerosoft, but I gave up on it, there were just to many editing problems to sort out and at the time i didn't have the patience to do it, I do agree that UK2000 's scenery doesn't convert very well but they were the only one that seamed to do a half decent EGKK scenery. You must have put in the hours to get Aerosoft's scenery to look good..

I put weeks into aerosoft's, it was already decent for me with the initial conversion. There are still glitches around but if your not looking for them, my version of aerosofts EGLL is fantastic. And I bought EGKK and I got horrid results, could I see a picture of what you got? because with me, almost every 3d object was either above ground by a few yards, or below ground by a few hundred yards. And there were no ortho ground textures (a biggie for me).

Rocket man
I took your advice and with-in half an hour I had improved the look ten fold...I now have a good looking airport with buildings on the ground..I did notice that in AC3D that if you very carefully manually pulled the object down to the ground level and then exported back to x-plane..in OE i didn't have to do any placement...I'm well chuffed...Many Thanks for the help

Yes, I have done it that way also. But I had uneven (no pun intended) results sometimes when runways follow contours was checked in settings.
cheers

Hi rocket man
I am new to this conversion stuff but would like to learn.
I am having trouble with this part:
What is the default coordinates for an object?
How do you move the obj in ac3d? "The easiest way in detail please"
How do you convert a obj to pol?

1. Select (highlight) obj, next click on "Move to" button in tool sidebar. For a complete description of obj default coords and how to customize them, refer to the ac3d user manual under Help menu.
2. Draped polygons (pol files) are superior over obj texture files where layering is concerned. There is no application which converts an obj file to a pol file. Creation is done in a text editor (for mac, TexEdit works fine). Documentaion on pol file structure and syntax can be found here For examples, try searching for pol files in your custom scenery folder.

Currently converting and working on KLAX KSFO KSAN & KSEA.
Using xplane lighting & default apt.dat with gate positions from converted afcads.
Blending nicely with my photoscenery of the west coast.
Looks great.
